What can we say about this beautiful and very rare bromeliad other than wow! These seeds are from the magnificent 'Turquoise Puya' which is one of the larger varieties of the pineapple family and slightly more showy than P. Alpestries with deep Turquoise coloured flowers and bright orange stamens that would not look out of place on the film set of the movie Avatar. It comes from the Andes mountain range of South America where it grows at a staggering altitude of around 5000 meters so is a pretty tough plant. Turquoise Puya has majestic silvery foliage arranged in a curling rosette and out of the centre of the rosette when it's time to bloom grows a large flower stem that can reach a height of over 6ft when fully grown but not to worry because flowers can still be enjoyed at a more manageble size and a much earlier age. These establish fast from seed and are easy to germinate albeit erratic and believe it or not some will reach flowering size within a few years if looked after. A must have for any flower lover.
