These are a beautiful and easy to care for shrub forming plant with lush ever green foliage and the rewards of exotic red & yellow flowers.
Known commonly as Peacock Flower this South American native in the wild can reach the dizzy heights of around 5 metres but in colder climates it can be grown indoors in a normal plant pot or for best results can be grown in a container so that it can be positioned outside during the summer months.
This species benefits from a light pruning each year after the blooming season which encourages new growth and also makes it a more suitable option when growing as a houseplant or in your apartment.
Requires a good watering in the summer months but can handle dry periods. Does not like frost or too much cold and will die in sub zero temperatures. Full growing and cultural advice provided on this website. Image: Forest & Kim Starr
